Sitting here with my husband and son waiting for my other son to come home from work. We are going to make breakfast and open up gifts (first time). Tomorrow going to some ex JW's for breakfast (little gift exchange), then off to my son's girlfriend's family for drinks then to friend from work house in the evening. Snakes, those goodies sound wonderful! Merry Christmas! NMKA

Wife & I were Without Electricity for 6 Days - Empathize with 3rd World......
by flipper ina massive storm from alaska knocked the hell out of northern california , giving us a foot and a half of snow , snapping trees like matchsticks , crashing multiple electrical lines in the sierra mountains where we live.
knocking electric out for 6 days ( thus my dissapearing act from jwn for 6 days ) - we had a 90 ft. ponderosa pine tree ( 3ft, around ) crash on the lower end of our acre we live on .
it's still leaning on oak trees suspended in time.

Yeah, we have been without for about 24 hrs. It is horrible, we live in a rural area and if the power goes out we have no water either because of the well pump. So a few years ago we purchased a great big generator that can run the fridge, freezer, well pump, sump, furnace, one outlet in every room and of course the TV so we don't kill each other. It seems like a bit of an extravagance but is wonderful when you really need it and worth every penny. Glad you are both OK!

Toilet quandries: The seat: Up/Down and Toilet paper direction
by Terry inthose who have lived with the opposite sex know of the frustration of being lectured about some triviality.. the toilet seat/paper controversy is among the most inflammatory.. men who forget to put the toilet seat back down inspire anger, rage, resentment and the stern lecture.. the easiest solution is to train the man to always sit down when he goes.. .
others argue over the direction of the toilet paper: forward overlap or backward underlap.. .
how do you deal with these issues and how violent do you become?.

Eliminating all traces of exJWs
by Scully indoes anyone know if it is common practice for jws to take down or remove photos of dfd or dad family members within their homes?.
if so, is there any basis for this practice within wt literaturetm?
or is it simply a matter of "going beyond the things written" in order to hurt and disrespect the target, and extended family members who have close ties to the target?.

I remember a family that had a bookstudy/ service group at their home and they had a DF'ed son's pic hanging with probably 30 other family photo's going down their basement steps. Well someone was offended by it and said it must come down, so the brother had to remove it or have the group removed from his home. So sad! NMKA

JWs @ The Movies: Did you ever...
by Open mind in...know the exact layout of lower manhattan so that whenever a bethel building even momentarily flashed upon the screen you'd go "look, look, it's the watchtower!!".
.
about the only cool thing about jws was the awesome chunks of real estate they had in brooklyn heights.. .

I agree with Onthewayout, the whole thing should be shut. It looks better, is more sanitary and things won't drop in it. At first I thought I don't care about the direction of the toilet paper, then I realized that I am the only one in this house that ever changes it, and yes I like it from the top. Because I have all these problems, I squeeze the toothpaste from the middle and leave the lid off so it gets all goobered up ( makes him nuts) Maybe we need to call a truce? NMKA

I have an elder family member ( not overweight) but always first in line for food even ahead of elderly or children. He wants select choices in a buffet line and may go back to get more before others have had a chance to eat. May start to belch and pass gas while you are still eating because he 's been wolfing food down and is stuffed! He refers to be invited to some one's home as a "free food". He takes fist fulls of candy at a restaurant on the way in and out. He will be the one in the dining room starting on the desserts while others are still enjoying appetizers and conversation in the other room. He will not put out all the food at a party in his home even though there is clearly not enough for the guests so that he has more for later. If you are serving "free alcohol" he won't stop and will never leave. When friends bring fancy wine or beer to their home they stash it away and serve some cheap crap so they can have the good stuff all to themselves later. That a Glutton!!!! NMKA

Is it socially and professionally acceptable to drink a beer during your lunch break?
by miseryloveselders ini've been watching my alcohol intake for dietary reasons.
i've been limiting my consumption to a small half glass of vodka, or a shot or two of bourbon.
alcohol just doesn't do well with the gains i want to make working out.

I just don't think it's a good idea (and I like my cocktails). Wouldn't you enjoy it more after work anyway? Jobs are so hard to come by right now I just wouln't chance it. NMKA
